Our volunteers give their time, one or more days on a weekly or monthly basis, depending on their interest and availability. Volunteers spend time doing practical tasks around the store like receiving inventory, interacting with customers, ringing in sales and helping with other tasks that make for the smooth running of the store.

We seek to open new Ten Thousand Villages retail stores in thriving retail markets across Canada. It generally takes between 12-18 months for a group to start a store, including the fundraising that is required. All Ten Thousand Villages stores are not-for-profit and any surplus garnered from a store is used for expanding new market opportunities and building the capacity of the artisans to be successful.
A new store launch requires a committed group of people dedicated to the vision of Ten Thousand Villages. The success of a new store depends on a strong local Board of Directors who oversee store operations, fundraising and general staffing.
