Gone Rural - Swaziland

Gone Rural is a development organization working to empower women in the remote parts of Swaziland. It is the largest handcraft business in the country, employing some 770 home-based women skilled in plaiting, stitching, and weaving products made from "Lutindzi" mountain grass, a sustainable local resource. Gone Rural also supports HIV/AIDS orphans, and alleviates poverty by providing reliable income through the creation of woven products made with sustainable materials. Through donor funding, Gone Rural also undertakes projects to provide food security and clean water to drought-stricken areas, offer training in vegetable "trench" gardening programs, empower women with literacy training, and provide youth with entrepreneurial skills and opportunities.
