Maximizing Employment to Serve the Handicapped (MESH) is a non-profit organization in India founded to provide opportunities for disabled people and their dependents, especially those affected by leprosy. MESH provides training, coordinates orders and facilitates marketing and exporting for numerous artisans and some 60 member groups across India. MESH exports textiles, jewellery, wooden products, toys, greeting cards and other handicrafts to Fair Trade organizations around the world. Increasingly, it is hiring disabled people to give administrative leadership. MESH works in leprosy colonies and rehabilitation workshops in villages all over India to ensure fair wages. Due to the stigma still attached to leprosy, most of these people would otherwise be unable to find work.
