The Zooties collection has created permanent employment for at least 20 women in the cooperative in Karakol, it has also created choice. Many women in Kyrgyzstan don't see viable options for themselves in country because of lack of work and look to immigrate to nearby countries like Russia, Turkey, and UAE for work. A portion of the women who immigrate become missing persons and it is widely speculated that they are sold into prostitution or human slavery. Zooties , albeit in a small way, are helping to prevent that by presenting local opportunities for employment to women in rural areas of Kyrgyzstan.
To make Zooties we start by cutting out the soles and body of the shoe from felt. We then proceed to trim out all the adorable details that the Zooties are decorated with. Once all details are cut and ready the artisans stitch all pieces together. We then line the shoe with a layer of undyed wool to ensure that nothing but nature graces the wearer of our Zooties.
