It’s that time of year when the sun sets earlier and the nights get a little cooler. Some long for warm summer days to return, but not me! I love the feeling I get stepping out of the cold into my warm and cozy home and plugging in the lights on my Christmas tree.
If the cold nights are getting you down, try my annual ritual (or parts of it) to add some holiday coziness and sparkle to your home.
- First things first – trim that tree! Every year my husband and I buy an ornament together from Ten Thousand Villages. It’s so fun to put up years of ornaments on our tree and reminisce about each one. This tradition really gets you into the holiday spirit – it’s also really easy to start. With so many unique ornaments ranging from cute crocheted animals to refined traditional shapes, you’re sure to find one to suit your tree!
- Once the tree is trimmed, I trade our regular cushions for holiday cushions. This is an easy way to transform your home and set the stage for this special time of year. The snowflake cushions from CRC are a great way to bring some cozy holiday to your home. The best thing about these cushions? Their snowflake pattern is wintery, not necessarily Christmassy, meaning they can stay out during those cold January days.
- Next on my list are Christmas cards! Every year I cue up a classic Christmas movie, open my address book at the letter ‘A’ and begin writing Christmas wishes. The Christmas box set cards from Silence are great for those (like me) who send out multiple cards. These cards, with their detailed screen printed designs, are like pieces of art you can mail. If you are just looking for a unique single card for someone special, Villages has lots.
- Finally, I add a warm sparkling glow around my house. Light some candles to add some warmth to places where your Christmas lights don’t reach. I like small sparkle tea lights, because they can fit almost anywhere. And with six tea light holders in a set, you can put them in crannies all around your home!
I hope my yearly ritual helps inspire you to deck your halls and trim your tree. Remember that once the stage is set, all you have to do is grab a warm drink and curl up on the couch with a classic Christmas movie or book to enjoy the festive, warm environment you created – with only a little help from Ten Thousand Villages! Now you’re ready to fill your home with friends and family to celebrate this wonderful holiday season.
