Lombok potters make this uniquely beautiful pie dish with fluted edge and hand-etched designs. Hand-formed, this piece is low fired over a wood fire and packed in straw. Before firing, the pots are burnished with a mixture of fine clay, water and oil, then rubbed with a smooth stone or hard object. Not exactly easy as pie, but the results are just as pretty.

Product Care

Before using your pottery, you must season the cookware. Start by heating the pottery in a 325 F oven for 10 minutes. Remove, and coat generously with olive oil, return it to oven for 20 minutes. Remove, cool and immerse in water for 20 minutes. The pottery should be re-seasoned if not in use for 3 or more months Always start your cooking process at low heat, gradually increasing the temperature as required. The maximum oven temperature for Lombok pottery is 350 F . Do not place hot pottery on cold surfaces or fill with cold water as dramatic temperature changes can cause cracks. Food particles stuck on cooking surfaces can be softened by soaking in warm water for 15 minutes. Do no soak for too long as the cookware might absorb the soap. Always hand wash your pottery with mild detergent and using only soft brushes. Rinse in clean water and towel and air dry. Ensure the cookware is clean and dry before storing in cupboard or air tight places as damp pots can became moldy. Do not put it in the microwave or dishwasher.
